HERA HEALTH HACK
If you’re determined to make 2025 your best yet, we recommend reviewing
your routine (or lack of one!) with fresh eyes. Use the prompts below to help
you design a new and improved plan of attack for this lap around the sun:
  1. Firstly, find some quiet time to sit and reflect on your last year.
  2. Now jot down the everyday things you breezed. Did you smash your fitness goals, bag a promotion, or finally make time for some self-care?
  3. High-five yourself and keep doing these!
  4. Define the regular events you battled with the most. Did you clash with a colleague, were you always scrambling to make the school lunches, did your relationship go stale?
  5. For each of these points, commit to one new strategy to try that might improve this situation. For example, if you struggled with your weight/fitness/eating habits, why not invest in a health coach?
  6. Next, define the top three areas of your life that you want to prioritise in 2024. This could be career, family, friends, fitness, love, charity…. you name it!
  7. Now, rewrite your dream routine. If time and energy were no object, what would you do to be the best version of yourself? While this won’t always be achievable, remember this is the plan you designed to live your best life.

A SPOT OF MOTIVATION
It turns out self-control might not be the key to achieving your new year’s resolutions after all. Over a hundred studies have shown that, what psychologists are terming ‘situation change’ AKA ‘avoiding the temptation in the first place’, might be the best strategy for changing your negative behaviour patterns. For example, if eating junk food is your vice, clear out your cupboards and fridge. If drinking or smoking is your problem, avoid situations and places where people are partaking in these, and if you’re a social media junkie, try deleting the offending apps from your phone. So, before you beat yourself up for giving into temptation this year, keep in mind that you’re only human, and instead try avoiding the temptation in the first place.
