Our top 5 tips for staying healthy on holidays:
Our top 5 tips for staying healthy on holidays:
- Rise and shine. You know the saying. But getting up and getting your training done early also means you can get on with your day without the guilt. And you’re much less likely to find an excuse not to move.
- Hydrate and repeat. Guzzling h2 O like it’s going out of fashion has so many benefits we don’t have time to mention them all. Not only does it prevent premature aging and reduce puffiness, it also means you’re less likely to overdo the Christmas cocktails.
- Remember to laugh. Christmas is not always an ‘easy’ time of year. But it is a chance to make lifelong memories. Don’t get caught up trying to make it perfect. And don’t sweat the small stuff. Remember to enjoy yourself.
- Fill up on real food first. This one’s especially important if you’re eating out or entertaining. When you’re starving, you’re much more likely to binge on canapes or over-indulge on the cheese board.
- Move it outdoors. Not only will you benefit from the fresh air, you’ll also get the family away from their screens. For bonus endorphins, why not incorporate some fun exercise like surfing, beach cricket, a friendly soccer match or volleyball into your celebrations?

A SPOT OF MOTIVATION
It might be the time we when over-indulge, but during the holidays it’s more important than ever to consider how you’re loading up your plate. A recent study has shown there’s a strong connection between food and mood, and a healthy and balanced diet could be the answer to staying sane over the break.
The study found that dopamine and serotonin (the happy hormones) both rely on a variety of nutrients to pass the blood-brain barrier, so if your festive sustenance revolves mainly around fried foods and sugars, you could be feeling flat over Christmas. And it’s not just your mood that will suffer from low serotonin, your brain heath and sleep quality could also be impacted. Keen to boost those happy hormones? Well experts say you should be munching on salmon, eggs, spinach and seeds over the summer holidays. This year when you’re planning your Christmas menu and stocking up your fridge before your guests arrive, consider the nutrients in your meals, and how these can impact your Christmas spirit
